The Lake District - Easy grade

• The Easy walking grade

Your profile
You don't do much regular walking or exercise. You are either a beginner and want to get started or you may be used to do some walking in the past and want to make a comeback. Our Easy walks are suitable for you.

They are comparatively short and are all taken at a comfortable pace (always able to chat) with as many rests as required by the party. They range from:

a) Easy gentle strolls for a distance of no more than about 6miles. These routes will be on easy woodland, country or coastal paths over gentle terrain that has no really rough or rugged sections and will not involve any really steep uphill walking. Time spent walking will be about 3hours. These walks are ideal for the people in the group to warm up and get to know one another.

b) Easy Walks subject to the groups wishes these walks can be up to about 10 miles in distance with some gentle hills to climb. Time spent walking will be about 4 hours.

As the walking time on these easy walks only take up half the day there will be plenty of time to look at or visit points of interest along the way - or after the walk is completed. It will be the groups decision whether they carry a packed lunch or stop off at a nice café or local pub for lunch. You will of course have the company of a guide who is well informed about most aspects of the landscape and culture of the area where you are walking. The guide will suggest places of interest to stop off at or to visit.

Walking holidays in the Easy grade will mainly explore the woodland paths and lower hills within walking distance of the hotel. However an ascent of Snowdon can be made by easy grade walkers. The route we use is at the limit of what we would expect on an easy walk but at a comfortable pace in our experience easy walkers can do this in 5 hours and most people beilieve it is worth the extra effort to do the highest peak in Wales and England.

We base our holidays near Grasmere, a beautiful village easily accessible but close to the centre of the Lakes. The village is famous for its associations with William Wordsworth and you will be walking the paths through the landscape that inspired him.

We offer holidays from Grasmere in Spring (April and May) and the Autumn (August, September and October), when the weather and hills are at their best.

The programme of walks is finalised when we know something about the groups fitness levels and interests. Final decisions on the days walks are taken each morning after we have obtained the weather forecast. There will be a choice of walks every day.

Walking holidays in the easy grade will explore the beautiful woodland paths in the valleys and dales and make ascents of the low fells that directly overlook the village.

Easy grade holidays particularly explore and visit places connected with Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. For those interested, there will be an opportunity to visit Wordsworth's home at Rydal Mount, and St Oswalds Church, Grasmere, where the Wordsworth family are buried.

Hawkshead, where Wordsworth went to school, and nearby Sawrey associated with Beatrix Potter, may be included in the Easy walking programmes.

How to Book - Proceed as follows

1. Select an arrival date, weekend holidays are for 3 nights. (However if you would like to book for 2 or 4 nights instead it can be arranged - simply email us with your requirements)
2. Choose number of persons.
3. To book either online with credit/debit card or by post with a cheque proceed as follows:
    a) Enter the number of persons in the box
    b) Click the arrow.
    c) Then scroll down to 'pay by card' or 'pay by post' and follow the instructions.
4. You will receive confirmation and invoice for the final balance (with discounts) and other details by email.
5. Cost of flight and travel is not included in the price. Do not book your flight until you have received final details & travel information from Walkabout Holidays.

Insurance

Included in the price is insurance with IGI Insurance Company Ltd protecting your deposit and subsequent final payment arising from cancellation or curtailment of holiday arrangements due to insolvency of Mountain Ventures Ltd. You will need to arrange your own travel & personal insurance.

Group Discounts

Discounts available on all holidays for groups of two or more people booking together:
2+ people booking together 5% discount pp on any holiday price
5+ people booking together 10% discount pp on any holiday price
8+ people booking together 15% discount pp on any holiday price
12+ people booking together 20% discount pp on any holiday price
Discounts are applied to your final invoice.
