For those people interested in walking in Spain we have put together more information on what you can expect in regard to the various grades of walking holiday. This is a more detailed look at the fitness and walking grades page, with a specific focus on the Spanish walking holidays which we advise you to refer to in order to identify the Walking grade that suits your level of fitness and ambition.
Easy: These walks along broad easy paths are ideal for those who don't do much regular walking or exercise but are keen to make a start to walking as a route to improved fitness and general well being. The walks are at a leisurely pace and usually start with a coffee in a village tapas bar and finish with a beer at the end of the walk. The aim is to get 3 or 4 hours out walking in the Spanish sunshine exploring the coastal scenery and the beautiful countryside. For those who find the going too easy there will be the possibility of moving up a grade into a Moderate grade group. Apart from the scenery, the ancient villages and groves of lemon, orange and almond one of the most distinctive memories of these walks will be the wonderful fragrance of the native shrubs.
Moderate: Walks in this grade are designed for people who walk fairly regularly and are happy to walk for between 4 and 6 hours a day. These walks explore the more strenuous trails and paths that go round or through the coastal mountains and take you into the heart of some spectacular mountain scenery. If you feel you are at the moderate level but feel perhaps you'd like the opportunity should need be to drop down to the Easy grade then you should book a holiday with the Code letters EM which has moderate and easy groups operating at the same time from the same base. Alternatively if you feel comfortably at the moderate level and think you'd like the opportunity try some walks in the Hard grade then you should book a holiday with the Code letters HM which has moderate and Hard groups operating at the same time from the same base.
Hard: Walks are designed for reasonably fit walkers who get out fairly regularly. The hard routes enable you to explore and enjoy the mountains of the Costa Blanca. You will make ascents of the highest peaks and undertake some adventurous days along spectacular ridge routes such as the Bernia Ridge. There will also be the opportunity to do a section of the 84 mile challenge walk which is the Costa Blanca Mountain Way. All the while enjoying everything else there is to savour on a Walkabout Walking Holiday in this spectacular part of Valencia.
